250 participate in table-tennis tourney in Tiruchy

Image result for Trichy District Table Tennis Development AssociationTHE Tiruchy District Table Tennis Development Association (TDTT-DA) in association with National College, Tiruchy (NCT) organised the third edition of the monthly tournament which concluded here on Sunday. About 250 players from districts, including Tiruchy, Musiri and Lalgudi, participated in the event. The tournament commenced on Saturday with eight different catego-ries based on players' age, including mini cadet, cadet, subjunior, junior, men, women, youth boys and open doubles. The monthly tournament's main goal is to inculcate and encourage young players to take up table tennis, so as to produce many laurels for Tiruchy district. Speaking to Express, P Ponnu Rathinam, president, TDTTDA, said it was the best of three games for mini cadet and cadet category players and the best of five in the finals. All other categories were the best of five.

By hosting individual matches, the TDTTDA has organised the tournament in association with National College to promote the table tennis culture in the institution and also among city youngsters. The prize distribution was held on Sunday evening with B Sirjunis Begam, principal of Point Calimere International School in Vedaranyam being the chief guest of the event. Prizes were distributed to the top scorers and participation certificates handed out. R Muruganantham, secretary, Rotary Club of Trichy Pinnacle, and D Prasanna Balaji, department head and director of physical education, NCT, were also present..
