Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrated with religious fervour



Vinayaka Chathurthi was celebrated in Tiruchi and other districts in the central region with religious fervour and traditional gaiety on Friday. Offering worship to Lord Vinayaka made of clay in their homes public turned in large numbers at various temples and offered worship to Lord Ganesha.
Idols of Lord Vinayaka were installed at public places in Tiruchi and elsewhere in the district with poojas being performed to them. The ancient Rockfort Temple at Tiruchi witnessed a large congregation of devotees who worshipped at the shrine of Lord Manikka Vinayagar at the base and the famous ‘Uchi Pillaiyar’ shrine atop the hillock.
The highlight of the festival at the Rockfort Temple was the offering of two big – sized ‘kozhukattais’ each weighing 75 kilograms to Sri Manikka Vinayakar and to Sri Uchi Pillaiyar.
The kozhukattais were thereafter distributed to the devotees who had turned at these shrines.
Temple officials said the ‘kozhukattai’ preparations had started two days ago.
Special abhishekams were performed to Lord Vinayaka at various temples in the region on the occasion of the festival.
