Trichy Junction and three other railway stations to get app-based cab services

Travellers could use app-based cab services soon as the Southern Railway has planned to introduce this facility at four select railway stations in Tiruchi Railway Division in order to provide better service at reasonable rate and prevent fleecing.

First, the service will be introduced at the Tiruchi railway junction. The contract has been awarded to Ola. The facility is expected to be introduced in a couple of months at Thanjavur, Puducherry and Srirangam stations after identifying the agency.

A separate area has been earmarked in front of the railway junction here to park a fleet of 20 Ola cabs to pick up passengers and drop them.

Passengers could book the service through Ola mobile app. A small kiosk would be set up at the station entrance where passengers could approach directly and make use of the facility, said an official.

The tariff would be charged depending on the kilometre and the type of vehicle hired. The service will be started on August 19 when the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will launch the facility through video-conference.

The authorities have planned to start premium car parking facility at the Kallukuzhi second entry side at Tiruchi Junction and a combined parking lot at Tiruchi Fort railway station.
