Soon, Butterfly Park will be easier to reach
THE butterfly park, an up and coming tourist spot, can be soon reached without any hassle. What was earlier a difficult place to reach due to the ups and downs over a 3-km stretch of road is set to become easily accessible as the PWD will commence construction for a new road at a cost of crore. Built at a cost of 18 crore, the butterfly park in Srirangam is in-accessible to many. A narrow and damaged road covering about 3.5 km amidst the villages of Melur is the only direct route to the butterfly park. As Tiruchy lacks a proper entertainment spot, the opening of the park came as good news, but most people found it difficult to get to the destination.
The Forest Department had been constantly asking for a new road to be built. Their demand is final-ly coming to fruition with the sanctioning. An official said the new road would now cover 5 km. In most of the places, the 3 km stretch tends to become narrow due to encroachments by residences. "A wall to prevent vehicles from crossing the road to Naatu Vaikkal would also be constructed. The road would have reflectors and speedbreakers to ensure safety," officials said. Ever since the park was inau-gurated, people have complained about access "On any Sunday, at least 75-80 cars make it to the park leading to huge traffic snarls that inconvenience residents as well as visitors," said people liv-ing in the locality.
