Police work out security details for procession of idols

The city police is all set for the Vinayaka idols procession here on Sunday. A detailed security scheme has been worked out exclusively for the idols procession to be taken out on August 27 - a couple of days after the Vinayaka Chathurthi festival.

Heavy police strength is to be put in place in the city this time too in an effort to maintain order; regulate vehicular movements and prevent any untoward incidents.

This time around, the law enforcers have granted permission for installation of 214 idols of Lord Vinayaka within the city – encompassing Srirangam, Fort, Golden Rock and Cantonment police ranges.

Image result for police vinayaga procession trichyThe city police strength has been mobilised for the smooth conduct of the procession which would culminate at the Cauvery river where the idols would be immersed one after the other. As per the arrangements planned for Sunday, over 1,200 personnel would be deployed which includes those from the Armed Reserve, Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion, Home Guards and Traffic Wardens.

Twelve Assistant Commissioners of Police, 36 Inspectors, over 180 Sub Inspectors and Special Sub Inspectors, 130 Armed Reserve police personnel and 45 TSP men form part of the force. Sources said permission for immersion of idols installed at public places in the city has been given only on Sunday.

Police teams would also be deployed at key areas in the city including Prabhat Junction, Head Post Office Junction, NSB road junction and Gandhi Market Arch to monitor the processions and act swiftly in case of any emergency situation, the sources said.

Police personnel would be accompanying the idols being taken out in procession up to the immersion point. The entire police force would be deployed by around 2 p.m. for the procession which is expected to go on till late hours.
