Medical education programme in Tiruchy


Mr Bhimaraya Metri, director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Tiruchy, on Friday underlined the need for doctors to continuously improve their skills, especially in the field of laparoscopic surgery. Inaugurating a two-day advanced Laparoscopic surgical skills course (Catalyst Series-III) by the department of Surgical Gastroenteroogy, Kauvery Hospital (KMC) at Tiruchy on Friday, he hailed the efforts of KMC for its continuous medical education programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr A. Zameer Pasha, president of the Indian Association of Gastro Endoscopy Surgeons (IAGES) said such courses were necessary for doctors who are in the field for upgrading their knowledge as well as their skills. Course director Dr S. Velmurugan said that it was the third of its kind in the last three years, and doctors from neighbouring states are attending. The candidates were supervised and trained by dedicated mentors and the programme included train-ing in the wet lab, live demonstration of laparoscopic surg-eries and also panel discussions on difficult laparoscopic surgical scenarios, he added. Among others, Dr D. Senguttuvan executive director KMC, Dr Ravi, spoke at the programme.
