large number of students are choosing nursing, physiotheray and pharmaceutical courses over others on offer

ON the third day of the application distribution process for paramedical courses, students appeared to be anxious on Wednesday to get forms from Tiruchy Government Medical College. Officials said though the college is providing application forms for nine different nursing courses, a large number of students are choosing nursing, physiotheray and pharmaceutical courses
over others on offer. As the medical counselling is soon to be conducted, the Medical Education Board started distributing application for ms for nursing courses in all 22 government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu from Au-gust 7 (Monday). The government nursing school here is distributing applications only for three-year diploma and bachelor paramedical courses. Applications for medical technician courses would be distributed later. There are about 450 seats available in the Tiruchy Government Nursing School, with all seats to be filled through counselling. Speaking to Express, Dr A Arshi-ya Begum, Vice-Principal, KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College (KAP VGMC), said, "We have received 1,700 application forms from the Tamil Nadu Medical Education Board. We have taken over 1,000 applications from students in the past three days of distribution. Our nursing schools pro-vide nine different paramedical courses, but due to the lack of awareness, a large number of stu-dents are seen specifically opting for BSc Nursing, B Pharm and BPT courses and leaving the rest." She added that people should enquire about the scope of other paramedical courses like radiotherapy and optometry which have similar ca-reer opportunities to nursing.
