Class XI examination pattern gets total makeover

NO detailed questions, marks for attendance and conditional pro-motion to Class 12 even if the student fails in the annual exam, the new question paper pattern for Class 11 seeks to usher in a number of changes to the board examination. Releasing the question pattern here on Friday, School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan said a blueprint of the question papers would be out soon. As per the document,language papers I and II would have questions for 90 marks, while the rest  10 would be awarded on the basis of internal assessment. They should score at least 25 marks to pass the external examination, and a minimum of 35 out of 100 marks to clear the paper.

In case of subjects with practical examinations, the written test would have 70 marks and the rest would be awarded for practical tests. Students should score a minimum of 15 marks in the written test, and 35 marks overall. Ten marks would be awarded for internal assessments ,attendance, class test and assignments/ projects/study trip. Of these, three marks would be awarded for attendance. Those with 80 per cent to 85 per cent attendance would be award-ed two marks, while those having only 75 per cent to 80 per cent attendance would get only one mark. Class tests would carry five marks, awarded on the basis of best three performances in the tests conducted throughout the year. For assignments/projects/ study trips, two marks would be awarded. As for the external exams, the way a student is handling the instruments, explains the project and maintains the practical record would be taken into consideration. There would be 20 marks for external exam - three for practical record, two for experiments and 15 for practicals.
