City kids to take part in national sports event

WITH continuous streak of victories, city children outshined the rest in the education district level, in Bharathiyar day sports events held at Orchard schools recently. Following the victory, students from Tiruchy were chosen to represent the State in the National level competition for table tennis and badminton. According to sources, the school education department recently organised a special dis-trict-level sports event for children in the two divisions Under 14 and Under 17) for the commemoration of Bharathiyar day. Nitin Palaniappan Arun of the Campion Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School topped the under 14 boys Table Tennis tournament in the si-gles event, and again, Nitin along with Mohamed Aabidh of the same school took the title under doubles category in the tournament. Meanwhile, S Gokul, a 11th grader from Orchard Schools, Tiruchy was declared as the Tamil Nadu State Junior U-17 badminton doubles winner at the State level championship tournament of 2017. S Gokul is to represent the state in the forthcoming national level com-petition which is to be held next year. At present, Gokul along with his doubles partner, Mohamed Farhan of the same school, had won both the singles and the doubles division tides in the Bharathiyar day sports event held in Anna Stadium recently.
