City comes under thick security blanket for Independence Day

IN view of 70th Independence Day celebrations, security has been beefed up in and around Tiruchy. On Sunday, the bomb disposal squad carried out inspection of trains using metal detectors and sniffer dogs. The police checked the bags of the passengers that were placed underneath the seats on the Jan Shatabdhi Super Fast Express. At least WO police per-sonnel have been put in the city for surveillance duty. Police have been deployed at vital
points for checking the vehicles and other computers. In Tiruchi Railway Junction, a sniffer dog squad has been doing rounds in all the compartments of the trains that are crossing the junction. In order to prevent unto-ward incidents, passenger baggage are being scanned with metal detectors and X ray machines. Close circuit television cam-eras that have been set up in the public places are closely being monitored by the police to look for any suspicious activity. The Independence Day venue where the district collector K Rajamani would be hoisting the flag.
