Cheaper rates will attract more travellers to Bangkok

The Trichy- Bangkok direct service by Thai AirAsia will raise the total number of international flights being operated from Trichy airport to 102 from the present 98. At present, five carriers like Air Asia, Malindo, Sri Lankan, Tiger Air and Air India Express are operating services to Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Singapore, Dubai and Sharjah. Besides, 28 domestic services are being operated by Jet Airways a week only to Chennai.
Compared to any other overseas destination, Thailand is comparatively cheaper. Hence the new service would attract more tourists from both the countries, say travel agents. "Since the tour package is cheap, travellers, particularly from upper middle class, would opt for Thailand as their destination. Many businessmen too go to the country for leisure using the cheap rates," says J John Nicholas, RL Aviation Services.
There is a close historical, spiritual and cultural connection between India and Thailand that dates back thousands of years. With many Tamil people running hotel business too in Bangkok, it would be a home away from home too for many tourists from here, he added. "People in Thailand have always been very friendly and affectionate towards those from India", he said.
According to studies, many festivals originating in India are widely celebrated in the Southeast Asian countries. The major Thai festivals include Songkran, Loy Krathong, Thai-Chinese vegetarian festival and the long boat race. These festivals share a common cultural heritage with Holi, Karthik Purnima, Deepavali, Navratri and Onam. These are all key factors that connect the people in both the countries.
