Carry original licence, police tell drivers

Consequent to the State government’s announcement, the police in the districts have asked drivers of all road vehicles to carry original licence from September 1.

The Perambalur police conducted a sensitisation meeting with drivers and owners of all types of road vehicles in Perambalur on Tuesday to drive home the government’s directive.

Presided over by the Perambalur Superintendent of Police Disha Mittal, the law-enforcers made it known to the drivers and owners of vehicles that original driving licence should be necessarily carried from September 1.

Facsimile copy invalid

Possession of facsimile copy of driving licence while driving would not be accepted, it was said at the meeting which appealed to the drivers and owners of vehicles to strictly adhere to the rule, a police press release said.

Meanwhile, in another release the Tiruchi rural police warned that persons found driving without original licence would be prosecuted under sections 130 and 181 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
