New courses at Trichy Govt Arts and Science Coleges

FOLLOWING the announcement by the Ministry of Higher Education to bring in 89 new courses in the constituent colleges, two of the Government Arts and Science Colleges in Tiruchy district are to list new courses in their prospectus for the academic year 2017-18. Periyar EVR College in the city and Government Arts and Science College in Thuvakudi, where admissions are still open, are to add five new courses, including four post graduate courses from this year After receiving 'A grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in May, Periyar EVR College has added new courses, making the total number of courses offered to 15. Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) for UG and MSc Visual Communication for PG will be newly added, this year.

Other additional courses are research based, including M.Phil Visual Communication (part-time and full-time), and MPhil Computer Science. Speaking to Express, Shantha Robinson, Principal, Periyar EVR College said that new courses were announced by the State Government in mid-June. "We will add one new department, along with a post-graduate course and two new research-based courses," she said. "All our passed-out students have been eagerly awaiting this announcement. As of now, there are over 4,000 students. The admission process is still on and many are expected to get admissions. The college has a teaching faculty strength of 170 members, out of which 130 are Ph.D. holders. There are 18 major research projects and three minor research projects as of now" said Shantha.
