ESIC hospital stands in need of maintenance

With the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) reportedly refusing to carry out repair works of the ESIC Hospital at Milaguparai constructed by the State Public Works Department, the State Labour Department is understandably evaluating options for expediting repair works of the structure.

There are clear external signs that the 50-bedded hospital catering to an average of 125 outpatients every day is in a state of dilapidation.

The concrete surface on the exterior has been tapering off at a fast pace, and the maintenance, in general, leaves much to be desired, according to representatives of working class that is eligible to utilise the facilities in the hospitals. The ESIC Hospital in Tiruchi that caters to the health care needs of insured beneficiaries in the central districts attracts a steady stream of patients since it is equipped with X-ray, scan, ECG, Labour Ward, Operation Theatre facilities, and Siddha and Ayurveda wings.

According to official sources, some works have been carried out inside the building to provide better convenience for patients.

The Labour Department, sources said, was keen that the overall structural revamp of the building must be carried out at the earliest
