Collectorate becomes functional

The integrated Collectorate complex in the city became functional on Wednesday with the Transport Minister K.N.Nehru holding a first meeting with officials there to discuss development programmes.

The Collectorate was built at an estimated cost of about Rs.12 crore with about one lakh square feet of office. Revenue and Development offices have been moved into the complex, which was declared open by Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi in September, after the completion of the interior works.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Nehru said a four-acre site owned by the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Corporation (TANSI) adjacent to the integrated Collectorate would be acquired soon for building the Collector's camp office, an auditorium and a community centre.

Acquisition

The proposed new ground-plus-six storey block of the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital attached to the K.A.P.Viswanatham Government Medical College would also be located opposite to the new Collectorate at Periyamilaguparai. About 10 acres held by various agencies would be acquired soon for the purpose.

Mr.Nehru also disclosed that the proposed integrated bus stand complex in the city would house a convention/trade centre and commercial complexes. It would also house a separate bus stands for omni and mini buses, apart from parking areas for taxis and autorickshaws.

Appointment orders

The Minister distributed appointment orders to six typists recruited through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, free house site pattas to 110 persons, free tailoring machines to 21 persons given through the District Welfare Fund Committee and the Department of Social Welfare.

Mahesan Kasirajan, Collector; Anbil Periyasamy, K.N.Sekaran, A.Soundarapandian, M.Rajasekaran and R.Rani,MLAs; V.Sangeetha, chairperson, District Panchayat Council, T.T.Balsamy, Corporation Commissioner, M.Anbazhagan, Deputy Mayor, C.A.Raman, District Revenue Officer, and others were present.
